Dip your quills and learn the art of lettering from a master calligrapher

In connection with the Gallery's special display 'Pleasure in Illuminated Manuscripts', Sara Mack master calligrapher will be initiating participants in the ancient art of calligraphy. You will learn how to hold the writing implement properly, then practice the basic Roman alphabet and the Uncial or a Celtic style of lettering.  Use of wet ink and dip pens will be taught and the conclusion with a simple project to end our session.
For ages 16+

Sara is a professional calligrapher from Leeds. Having worked and taught in the Leeds area for nearly thirty years she was the Calligrapher for the Froissart exhibition at the Royal Armouries.  She has taught at all major colleges and night schools, such as the University of Sheffield, the International Medieval Congress at Leeds University, and Lotherton Hall, where she also exhibited.
