Core collection books

With the exception of health, medicine and education, core collection books are on level 9 and level 10 of the Edward Boyle Library.

Reference books

Arts and social sciences collections are on level 13 of the Edward Boyle Library.

Science and engineering collections are interfiled with the main collections on level 11 and level 12.

Large books

These are generally shelved at the end of their subject.

There is a separate section for "Stack Large" books on level 8 of the Edward Boyle Library and also for most Large books on floor 2 of the Brotherton Library West Building

Pamphlets

In the Edward Boyle Library, pamphlets are shelved at the end of their subject.

In the Brotherton Library, pamphlets for all subjects are shelved together in the mobile shelving on floor 3 of the West Building

High Demand Collection

The Library's High Demand Collection contains items known to be in heavy demand by students. It is shelved in the Edward Boyle Library and Health Sciences Library. Loan periods are restricted (from four hours up to several days).

Store items

Some older materials and all PhD theses are held in the Library stores. 
To request store items use the "In store - request here" link. The turnaround time is usually a minimum of 48 hours (weekdays).

Recently returned areas

In each part of the Library there are sections for books waiting to be put back on the shelves. If the book you need is not where it should be on the shelf, check the recently returned areas.

The recently returned areas on each floor are marked on the floorplans for the Brotherton, Edward Boyle and Health Sciences libraries.
