Reservations and recalls
We operate a reservation and recall system so we can make popular items available to as many customers as possible.
Undergraduates and external members can reserve up to six items.
Postgraduates and academic staff can reserve up to ten items.
You can reserve: Standard loan and 7-day loan items.
You cannot reserve: 1-day loans, 3-day loans and High Demand Collection items.
How to reserve an item
- Find it in the Library Catalogue (use either the Classic Catalogue or Search@Library)
- Select "Reserve" (Classic) or "Request it" (Search@Library). The button is at the top-left of the screen on both
- Log in
- Choose the item and submit the form.
We will send a recall email to the person who has the item. When they return it we will email your University account to tell you that it is ready to collect from the Reservations self-pickup area. You will need your membership card to collect your reservation.
We will keep a reserved item for you for one week, after which time it will be returned to the open shelves, or moved on to the next person in the queue.
Recalled items
All Standard and 7-day loans are subject to recall at any time, including during vacations.
If another customer reserves an item that you have this will show immediately when you check your Library record. You will also receive a recall email the following day asking you to return it on a particular date. This date may be earlier than the date you were given when you checked out the item. If you do not return it by the new date, you will start to accrue fines.
If you have any doubts about your ability to return a recalled item on time please contact the Library.
