Description
Comprises various samples of fabric designed and created by Doris Goerner, mainly in 1970s, and printed books about the construction and design of textiles.
Boxes 1 and 2 include fabric samples designed and woven by Goerner for companies such as G Plan, E. Gomme Ltd., British Airways and British Caledonian. The boxes are particularly rich in samples of upholstery fabrics. Originally in a large black portfolio.
Boxes 3 and 4 include fabric samples showing various twill textile weaves such as herringbone. The boxes also include samples of double plain weave and weft faced tapestry weaving. Originally in a medium sized black portfolio.
Boxes 5 and 6 include fabric samples showing combination and weft face tapestry weaves with different numbers of warp and weft threads. The boxes also include samples of different types of fabric such as Bradford cord and crepe. Originally in a red portfolio.
Boxes 7 and 8 include fabric samples showing honeycomb weaves, sateen combinations, fancy twill and different weaves effects. Originally in a blue portfolio.
Box 9 contains proofs in English, French and German with plates of the 'Large Book of Textile Designs' edited by Franz Donat, a publisher's poster and a 5-1/4 inch floppy disk labelled 'AVL Design and Weave 1987. Originally in a small black portfolio.
Biography or history
Doris Goerner was a leading textile designer and Lecturer in the Department of Textile Industries at the University of Leeds.
