Miscellaneous records recording work done:
1) Day Book. June 1838—April 1849.
Apparently a daily record of the yarn spun possibly giving the names of customers (‘France’s & Fox’s), the type and weight of yarn spun and the amount charged for the work. Record of cloth (giving colour, quality, amount, weight and length) sent to named concerns, Aug. 1848-April 1849. Another name is given beside each piece which could be that of the weaver. June 1848-April 1849: record of weight of yarn/wool being processed by named concerns, with amount of oil used.
2) Account Book. Oct. 1907-c. Sept. 1913.
Accounts of customers for whom France spun wool, noils, etc., into various yarns. Gives amount and type of wool supplied and similar details of yarn produced with what was presumably the cost.

3) Order Book. Nov. 1901-Dec. 1906.
Daily record of yarn orders received giving name of customer, much detail of type and amount of yarn required and dates when various parts of the order were prepared and when the order was completed. Customers are mainly West Riding and West European with some Canadian concerns. Indexed by name of customer.

Accounts of named suppliers of goods and services. Where specified, goods supplied include cards, waste, gas, water, oil, carriage, and hay. Indexed by names of suppliers who are mostly British (particularly West Riding), with some West European.

6) Bills Payable. Jan. 1878 - May 1903.
Details of bills payable giving by whom drawn, on whom drawn, where payable, time, date, when due, amount, and when advised.
Wages
7) Wage Book. Feb. 1907-June 1912.
Record of weekly wages paid to about 30 named workers sometimes giving the number of hours worked. Occupations of individuals are not given but totals paid in — ‘B.C.’ wages, pullers' wages, and weavers wages are given. From Feb. 1916 weekly wage bill at Albert Mills is given. From Dec. 1911 the ‘non-insurable’, clerical staff, and insured amounts of the total weekly wage bill are given.
Biography or history
James France and Company Limited, of Albert Mills, Savile Town, Dewsbury, were carpet and woollen manufacturers and yarn spinners. They were established ca. 1790 in Coxley Valley and moved several times before settling at Albert Mills.
According to White’s Directory, 12th Edition c. 1870, James France & Co. were carpet and woollen manufacturers and yarn spinners of Wellington Rd, Westgate, and Hebble Mills, Dewsbury.
