Comprises Hodgson's own papers as well as a collection of Alan Ayckbourn scripts, original artwork and papers (including some correspondence and manuscripts) of Rudolf Laban, and an extensive collection of materials, including much audio-visual, relating to the study, teaching and production of drama.


Includes original artwork, photographs, slides, and audio-visual materials.

Biography or history

John Hodgson was Head of the Faculty of Performing Arts at Bretton Hall, University of Leeds. Bretton Hall was a teacher training college set in the Yorkshire countryside just outside Wakefield. The grounds are now the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Hodgson taught and studied the work of Rudolf Laban for more than 25 years. He died in 1997.

Provenance

The collection contains archives collectedby John Hodgson during the course of his career relating to the performing arts. It also contains Hodgson's research notes and some personal papers.
