What is in the search results?
Catalogues of archives are usually arranged in hierarchies - one hierarchy for each collection in the archive. Search results are of single records at a particular level of a hierarchy. The results may include several records from the same collection but from different parts of its hierarchy.
Some of our collections only have a collection-level record; they do not have a hierarchy. For those records that do have a hierarchy, then a link appears that will display the full hierarchy and will allow you to view other records in the same collection.
If a record has an image, a document or other digital content then the first column of the search results will contain a small thumbnail image or document icon. Otherwise, the first column contains an icon indicating the type of object. View the list of hierarchy icons.
