Key databases for Translation

If you need to find journal articles about a subject that you are researching or studying, it is important to search journal databases. Type your topic into the search screen of the database to obtain a list of relevant journal articles, and remember to look at help screens or Library guides to make the most of what is on offer.

Search for journal articles in film and cinema. Updated twice a year.

Index to Theses

Search for UK and Irish theses titles. It also includes abstracts for most theses since 1970. Updated eight times a year.

Literature Online

Search and find the full text of over 350,000 works of English and American poetry, prose and drama, over 300 full-text literature journals and many detailed works of reference and criticism. It also links out to authoritative websites. LION is underpinned by browsable lists arranged by author, period, nationality, literary movement, ethnicity and gender. Updated 9-10 times a year.

ProQuest dissertations and theses

Lists details of more than two million doctoral dissertations and master's theses from 1861 in all disciplines. Divides into: Dissertation abstracts A: The humanities and social sciences, and: B: The sciences and engineering. Coverage is international. Dissertations published from 1980 onwards include 350-word abstracts written by the author. Master's theses published from 1988 onwards include 150-word abstracts. Titles available as PDF formats include free 24-page previews. The full text of most documents can be purchased online.

Television and radio index for learning and teaching

Search for forthcoming television and radio programmes, including terrestrial, cable and satellite television. The database is updated daily.

Translation studies bibliography

An annotated bibliography of the vast field of Translation and Interpreting Studies. It aims to be as comprehensive as possible, without any national, regional, cultural or thematic limitations. The following categories of publications are included: journal articles, monographs, (articles from) collective volumes, reviews, reference materials, dissertations and unpublished manuscripts.

Web of Science

Search for journal articles using three databases; Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. A current awareness service provides citation alerts for newly added journal articles. Each database is updated weekly.
