Key databases for Transport Studies

If you need to find journal articles about a subject that you are researching or studying, it is important to search journal databases. Type your topic into the search screen of the database to obtain a list of relevant journal articles, and remember to look at help screens or Library guides to make the most of what is on offer.

Below is a list of journal databases which are most often used in Transport Studies. You can also see a complete list of databases for Transport Studies available from the Library.

Transport database

The main database for transport studies, including a combination of three databases: Transportation research information series (research information on all surface transportation modes, air transport, and highway safety); International road research documentation (abstracts on highway research provided by OECD member countries); and TRANSDOC (abstracts of transportation economics literature as well as bibliographic records provided by the International Union of Railways (UIC).

Scopus

Scopus is a large abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature from more than 18,500 journals and quality web sources, with smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research.

Web of Science

Search for journal articles using three databases; Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. A current awareness service provides citation alerts for newly added journal articles. Each database is updated weekly.

PsycINFO

Contains journal articles, books, dissertations and theses in core psychology disciplines, behavioural sciences and mental health. It covers 1881 to the present day. A current awareness service provides alerts for newly added content. Updated weekly.

Engineering Village

Subjects covered include engineering geology, environmental science, nanotechnology, geophysics, petroleum engineering and physics. This is the biggest and broadest engineering and computing database in the world. Search for journal articles, technical reports and conference proceedings. Includes the research databases Compendex and Inspec and the book collection Referex. It is better to de-select Referex if you are looking specifically for articles, as it improves the search.

EconLit

Good for economics and related subjects such as accounting, consumer economics, monetary policy, labour economics, marketing, economic theory and planning. It includes essays, research papers, books, dissertations, book reviews and working papers, and it is easy to search by keyword. There are no full text articles on EconLit so you will need to search the Library Catalogue for the journal title to see if we have it.

TRID (Transport Research Information Services)

A newly integrated database that combines the records from TRB's Transportation Research Information Services (TRIS) database and the OECD's Joint Transport Research Centre's International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database. TRID provides access to over 900,000 records of transportation research worldwide.?There are no full-text articles on TRIS so you will need to search the Library Catalogue for the journal title or conference name.
