Papercuts have decorated Chinese homes for generations; you will not believe the intricate designs that can be produced with only paper and scissors. Join us and try out some of your own patterns!Show description +
This weekend, we're joining forces with The Business Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds to bring you a taste of Chinese papercutting!
Whether you are interested in traditional Chinese culture, or would like a new source of inspiration for creative projects, this workshop is for you. We can't promise that in 2 hours you will develop the dexterity of an expert Chinese paper cutter, but you can certainly give it a go!
This is the third in a new series of workshops on different aspects of Chinese culture organised by The Business Confucius Institute. (Find out more)
In this session, you will be given a brief overview of the history and cultural significance of Chinese papercutting, and shown examples of some of the motifs and themes that are commonly seen. Led by the tutor, you will create a 3D Chinese lantern or Chinese character design. These simple but effective designs are the perfect way to get your scissor-fingers warmed up and your ideas flowing!
This workshop is open to ages 12 +
The workshop costs £3, payable via the University Online Store. Please pay in advance online to secure your place.
