Special Project: Dreams of a Low Carbon Future

Published 26 June 2013

Wonderful utopias and dismal dystopias in a groundbreaking community project bringing together artists, designers, children and researchers

10 February - 29 March 2014

This exhibition highlights artwork created by local school children, University of Leeds and Sheffield engineering researchers, comic artists, fashion designers and illustrators for the graphic novel Dreams of a Low Carbon Future, a project funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering, and led by Prof Paul Williams and Mr James Mckay of the Doctoral Training Centre in Low Carbon Technologies at Leeds.

This unique community of artists, designers, children and scientists were brought together to consider the issues of climate change and how we adapt, or mitigate it, to ensure a sustainable future society. Many workshops were held to explore these issues before the final images were selected for the book. Included in the exhibition are examples of fantastic finished artwork, sketches and concept work, and diverse visions of the future, which will lead viewers through a process of exploration of issues which are critical for us all to consider.
