Managing information online

There are lots of digital tools available to help you manage your information, notes and references. Choose a couple of online tools which suit how you work and they can help you keep track of all the information you have and save time trying to organise it all.

EndNote is an online reference management tool which allows you to save and organise your references in one place. This helps you keep track of what you have read and find it again easily. You can import references from the library catalogue and databases, or just type them in. EndNote then allows you to organise them into folders, attach notes if you wish and save the relevant PDF or Word document if you have it. It works with Microsoft Word so that you can insert citations straight into your work and produce bibliographies automatically. Have a look at our EndNote webpages and EndNote videos to find out more.

There is a wide variety of digital tools available to help you take and manage your notes from lectures, seminars and reading.

Evernote is an online tool which allows you to make and organise your notes and, if you wish, share them with others. You can take notes directly into Evernote, take photos of your handwritten notes or save webpages, documents and PDFs. It also allows you to create notebooks so that you can organise your notes into different topics and you can search by keyword so that you find your information easily. Evernote works across multiple devices so it is easy to keep track of your information wherever you are.

There are digital tools available to help you store documents online which allows easy access to them wherever you are and across different devices, and enables you to share them with others.

Google Drive is an online tool which allows you to store lots of different types of documents online. It can be accessed from your PC or mobile device and allows you to store and work on documents online. It syncs across all your devices so you only need to update one version of your document and don't need to upload new ones. You can also share your documents with others and you can choose to let others edit your documents which makes it particularly useful for group projects.
