Student Libraries

Learning resources for taught courses

The Libraries are instrumental in acquiring and arranging access to items on module reading lists so that students have the materials they need.

We check every student reading list and our priority is to provide access in electronic format wherever possible. Our books expenditure increased from £545,700 in 2019/20 to just over £1 million in 2022/23 to meet this aim. The University provided a further £1 million for online resources that directly support teaching in 2020/21, which grew to £1.26 million in 2022/23.

We create direct links to resources from module reading lists in Minerva, the University's Virtual Learning Environment, to make access as easy as possible. These resources, alongside our wider collections, are all accessible through the Libraries website.

Comprehensive guidance on how to use the collections, including video clips, is also available from our website. Our Learning Advisors provide in-person and online sessions to support students to become independent researchers, able to interpret and manage the information they discover through our collections.
