Selecting reference types in EndNote

General Limitations

EndNote does not have a reference type for every source you may need to reference. In some cases, the reference type simply has a different name than is stated in the Library's referencing webpages - these are indicated below in the Reference type help section.

Some of the EndNote reference types do not contain the fields or field names needed to create a reference in the Leeds style. Below you will find help on which fields to use for this information so that your references appear in the correct format in your documents.

If you are manually entering your references and the reference type you need is not available from the drop-down menu, nor listed below, then use the "Generic" option to create a reference that includes the appropriate fields.

The following EndNote reference types should not be used at all as it is not possible to use alternative fields: Bill, Case, Grant, Hearing or Serial. Use the "Generic" option instead.
