CLA library sticker scheme (for external customers)

The CLA library sticker scheme covers photocopying for commercial purposes.

The scheme is for customers other than University staff and students.
It does not apply to current staff and students of the University of Leeds.

Why we are using the scheme

There is no provision for "fair dealing" when making photocopies for a commercial purpose (ie to support your business or other money-making activity).

To allow our external customers to photocopy for purposes other than their "private study or non-commercial research", we have to use the CLA library sticker scheme.

Making copies for a commercial purpose

If you wish to make the copy yourself on a self-service machine within any of the University libraries, please go to the enquiry desk first.

  • You will need to give the details of what you are copying, and your own personal details (so you can claim back VAT)
  • You will be charged the standard rate for a CLA-cleared copy, and given a sticker to put on the back of your photocopy
  • This photocopy can then be used legally for commercial purposes (with the same status as a British Library copyright-cleared article or extract).
