Leeds University Library

In the following pages you will find ideas and activities to help you to identify and articulate how studying at the University of Leeds develops your employability skills.

Employability has been defined by Yorke (2006) as:

"a set of achievements - skills, understandings and personal attributes - that makes graduates more likely to gain employment and be successful in their chosen occupations, which benefits themselves, the workforce, the community and the economy." (p.8)

To help you develop your employability while at university, a good strategy to follow is to:

  • decide what you want to do
  • plan how you're going to gain the skills and experience you need
  • compete for the career that you want.
If you're still not sure about your future career aims, experts in the Careers Centre will help you to make well-informed choices.
