Developing your skills

In order to take full advantage of the opportunities to develop your employability skills while at university, it is helpful to make a plan of the skills you want to develop and how you will develop them.

SMART action planning is a way of identifying and setting clear objectives in order to make your plans more effective and achievable. You can use this activity to find out more and learn how to create your own skills development action plan. Take a look at our tutorial, Planning your skills development, to find out more.

Reflecting on your skills

Reflecting on your skills development and reviewing your progress is an important part of action planning. If you keep a reflective record of your skills development at university, you will find it acts as a really useful reference and time-saver when you complete application forms and prepare for interviews.

Use our tutorial on reflective writing for more detailed information, advice and activities.
