Autumn of Public Art

Join us on campus this autumn for a host of public art related events, featuring short talks, movement workshops, performances and poetry readings.

All events are free and open to all. Public Art Shorts! events run for 15 - 20 minutes unless otherwise stated.

  • 30 Sept 2015, 1.15pm Public Art Shorts! Austin Wright's Limbo (1958)
    With Prof. Ann Sumner.
    Meet at The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery, Parkinson Building.
  • 1 October 2015, 1 - 2pm Lunchtime Talks: Public Art on the University of Leeds Campus
    Prof. Ann Sumner will introduce key works of Public Art situated at the University of Leeds and will discuss the philanthropy and vision of University Art patron, Stanley Burton.  
    Meet at the Brotherton Room, Special Collections, Brotherton Library.

  • 8 October 2015, 4pm Public Poetry Please!
    Join Helen Mort and Prof. Ann Sumner for Public Art-inspired discussion and poetry readings on National Poetry Day.

  • 14 October 2015, 1.15pm Public Art Shorts! William Chattaway's Hermes (1958)
    New Public Art Project Intern, Emily Towler discusses the Vice Chancellor's favourite public artwork on campus.

  • 21 Oct 2015, 1.15pm Public Art Shorts! Quentin Bell's The Dreamer (1982)
    With Emily Towler.

  • 24 October 2015, 2.30 - 4pm The Art of Tai Chi
    The Gallery joins forces with the Business Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds in this  Burton Saturdays Workshop.  Learn Tai Chi with tutor Maria Sandle in the shadow of William Chattaway's Walking Figure (1989).

  • 4 November 2015, 1.15pm Public Art Shorts! Ben Eggleton's Immurement (2014).
    Prof. Ann Sumner interviews Curator Layla Bloom about the FUAM Graduate Art Show 2014 winner's artwork.
