How the Library is supporting you with the HEFCE open access policy for the REF

HEFCE's open access requirements for the next REF came into effect on 1 April 2016. In order for newly accepted journal articles and conference papers to be REF eligible they need to have been deposited as soon as possible after acceptance for publication.

So what is the Library doing to help you?

Our dedicated team of repository and open access experts are here to support you to meet the HEFCE open access requirements for the next REF.

Processing and checking your outputs

Our repository assistants process your outputs once you have added them to Symplectic. Once we've checked the copyright, licensing and any required embargo periods we will make them live in the institutional repository (White Rose Research Online).

Increasing team support

We have recently recruited additional staff to make sure that we have the resources to help you to comply with the HEFCE open access policy.

Making sure your outputs can be used in the next REF

The team also helps safeguard research outputs for REF eligibility. We check dates of acceptance are present and that bibliographic details are correct. We also make sure that the uploaded manuscripts are the correct author accepted manuscript version.

If there are any problems when we process your outputs, you will hear from one of the team. Please answer any of our queries quickly so that we can make sure that you meet the HEFCE deadline for deposit.

Answering your open access questions

We are always on hand to answer any enquiries you might have about depositing papers and anything to do with open access in general.
