Two days' notice for Special Collections
After successfully trialling advance retrievals for several months, Special Collections are pleased to announce we are making this process our permanent policy.
All customers are asked to provide at least 2 working days' notice of the material they wish to consult during their visit. Special Collections staff can retrieve up to 10 items per person in advance of each visit and these will be ready to consult upon arrival. There is a longer notice period for FAN, YAHS and items located off-site, please contact us for more information on requesting from these collections.
We have received some really positive feedback from the trial. Advance retrievals have significantly reduced waiting times, allowing customers to access the material they have requested as soon as they arrive. By retrieving items ahead of visits Special Collections staff are able to identify conservation issues and review handling procedures, enabling access to the collections while also maintaining high standards of collections care.
