Green impact Award

Library receives gold standard for green impact

Once again the Library is pleased to receive gold standard in the national Green Impact scheme - the environmental accreditation and awards scheme run by the National Union of Students.

The award highlights the positive efforts of staff and students across the Library in reducing energy use and increasing levels of recycling, and this year the gold standard was even harder to achieve. Here are some of our activities:

  • selecting energy efficient equipment - LCD display screens rather than plasma screens
  • encouraging staff to use the University's 'active travel' and public transport schemes
  • setting up a 'green resources' section on the intranet so it's easy to find out about recycling issues
  • reporting 'hot spots', and giving advice on environmentally-friendly purchases
  • re-styling our loading bays to cope with different recycling materials, especially all the cardboard boxes our books come in.

Find out more about how you can minimise your environmental impact when you're in the Library.
