Leeds University Library

Changes to referencing styles

Published Tuesday 20 August 2013

The Library has made a number of amendments to the Leeds University Harvard and Numeric referencing styles, following consultation with students and academic staff.

The changes are:

  1. Surnames to be written in lowercase, eg SMITH, R. will be Smith, R.
  2. No inversion of initials for 2nd author, eg KANE, M. and W. TROCHIM will be Kane, M. and Trochim, W.
  3. et al. used for more than 2 authors
  4. Comma to be included in the Harvard citation, eg (Smith, 2008) (Smith et al., 2008) (Smith, 2008, p.3).

If your school has chosen Harvard or Numeric as its official referencing style, you should use this style in your assignments. Extensive guidance is available on our referencing webpages.

The Leeds University EndNote styles have been updated to reflect these changes.

If you cannot find the answer to your referencing or EndNote questions on our webpages, contact your faculty team librarian for help.
