Develop students' academic literacies

Referring students to Skills@Library

In addition to our online academic skills resources, we provide an open programme of workshops and webinars and one-to-one appointments. We also offer one-to-one appointments for maths and statistics support. Our co-curricular is intended to support all taught students with further developing their academic practice, whatever their current level of attainment.

Refer students to a Skills@Library workshop

Students can book a place on our workshops and webinars via our online booking system.

If you have a student who would like to attend a workshop that is fully booked, we suggest that they email Skills@Library to ask to be put on the waiting list for a particular workshop. There are sometimes last-minute cancellations or, if a topic is particularly popular, we may schedule an additional session.

If you have a number of students needing extra support in a particular area, contact your Learning Advisor to see if we can offer a bespoke embedded workshop.

Refer students to a one-to-one appointment

Students are able to request an appointment for a one-to-one consultation with a Learning Advisor.

These individual consultations are intended to help students enhance their academic practice. Our Learning Advisors can support students to enhance their academic skills, on topics including critical thinking, academic writing, reading, and finding and evaluating information, by either working through a plan, an example of their written work or a database search strategy.

Students can request an initial 45-minute appointment and up to two follow-up sessions per semester if necessary.

If a student has requested a one-to-one appointment, we may ask them to send us an example of their work in advance, along with any feedback they have received. Given the short time available, students are encouraged to identify a specific issue or query that they have; this will help to ensure they get the most out of the consultation.

To request an appointment, the student should complete our short online request form available from our one-to-one appointment webpage.
