Description: Painting includes legend: "Cloth Hall, Ypres, 19/7/17". On reverse: "36. Ypres: The Cloth Hall in 1917. Sketched from the shelter of a wall near the old Menin Gate. The holes in the Tower were not made by mice and there was usually something dead lying about The Grand Place; You crossed it at the double. The Hall was later flattened out and when re-building was begun apres la Guerre fini a company of sixty men was found under debris."
