Bindings
Eighteenth-century binding of full mottled calf over pasteboard. The spine has six raised bands. In the second panel is a pared brown leather lettering piece gold-tooled with a border of double fillets and containing the words: Leonard de Utino Sermones de Sanctis. A similar lettering piece in the third panel is gold-tooled with the place and date: Nurember[g] 1478. The other panels are gold-tooled with a pattern of stylised foliage, flowers and leaves. The pastedowns are of marbled paper featuring the curl pattern in red, orange, blue and cream. The leaf edges are coloured red. Size: 405 x290mm. Leaf size: 396 x 280mm.
Provenance
An inscription in ink manuscript beneath the title on numbered leaf i has been washed and is now indistinct.
Coloured armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Allen Brotherton on the front pastedown. The book was most likely acquired before 17 June 1929 when Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
