Description

Arrangements were made in 1961 between the University of Leeds and Dr Cecil Roth (1899-1970) for the acquisition of his outstanding library of printed books and manuscripts, the purchase being facilitated by a very generous anonymous benefactor. Amongst this material were various modern business papers and letters which Dr Roth no longer required to retain, including this small group concerned with the condition of the Jewish community in Salonika, their desecrated cemetery, and Greek Jewry in general at the end of the Second World War. All the items are in English.

System of arrangement

The MS Roth (pers) 8 catalogue is based on an historic inventory, created in 1983. The arrangement of material does not necessarily represent the original order of the archive and it is considered partly processed by an archivist. When making requests to consult, please be aware that there may be discrepancies between description and physical arrangement. The retrievable unit for this collection is file level.
