Bindings
Nineteenth-century binding of half pale brown goatskin and pink and brown marbled paper over pasteboard. The pastedowns are of marbled paper featuring the spot pattern in brown, blue, pink and yellow. The spine has five raised bands on which are gold-tooled flower and leaf motifs. Gold-tooled on the second panel are the words: Tractactus de Transcendentibus. A single flower motif is gold-tooled on the third panel with a row of six flowers at the base of the spine in between double fillets. There are also gold-tooled double fillets at the head of the spine. Size: 158 x 117mm. Leaf size: 152 x 105 mm.
Provenance
Small black and white armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Allen Brotherton on the front pastedown. The book was most likely acquired before 17 June 1929 when Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
