Hain 13173 combines this and Goff P874 (Poggius, Historia Florentina) in one entry but overlooks the colophon of the Aretinus. The title is presumably intended to cover both works.

Bindings

Nineteenth-century binding of half calf and cloth over pasteboard. The spine has five slightly raised bands and is blind-tooled with fillets and a hatched design. Gold-tooled in the second panel are the words: Lionardo Aretino Historie Fiorentine. Gold-tooled in the fourth panel are the words: Poggio Histori Fiorentine. Gold-tooled in the bottom panel are the place and date: Firenze 1482. The remains of a rectangular library label in brown paper, the numbers now indistinct but possibly D42 19, are pasted onto the fifth panel of the spine. The pastedowns are of marbled paper featuring the comb pattern in red, yellow, blue, black and cream. Size: 328 x 230mm. Leaf size: 320 x 215mm.

Bound with one other publication. Volume contents: 1. Bruni Aretino, L: Historia Florentini populi, 1492. -- 2. Bracciolini, P: Historia Florentina, 1492.

Provenance

Circular book stamp on a2r: Museo Cavaleri. This is the stamp of Michele Cavaleri (ca.1813-ca.1875), lawyer and founder of a private museum in Milan.

Coloured armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Allen Brotherton on the front pastedown. The book was most likely acquired before 17 June 1929 when Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
