Biography or history
When plans for a survey of the dialects of England were first put forward, and throughout its planning, creation, development and implementation, the Survey was known as the English Dialect Survey (EDS). The title, Survey of English Dialects (SED), historically refers to the publication programme that followed the Survey proper. It is this title that is used throughout the LAVC catalogue.
A summary description of the history, development, implementation and publication of the English Dialect Survey/Survey of English Dialects can be found at LAVC.
System of arrangement
