Some marginal annotations in ink manuscript, some washed, fifteenth- to nineteenth-century.
Major initials supplied in blue and red.
The first leaf of the text ([a5r]) is painted in watercolours, eighteenth- or nineteenth-century, with a large decorated initial and borders featuring Roman emblems in a variety of colours. There is a coat of arms in the lower margin with a twisted serpent holding a human being in its mouth and surmounted by a crown.
Foliation supplied in pencil manuscript at top right of rectos.
On the verso of the front free endpaper and the flyleaf opposite are many notes in black ink and pencil manuscript, nineteenth- and twentieth century. The notes give details of the sale at auction of other copies of this edition with details of former owners and prices paid. Among the people mentioned are Anthony Askew, William Roscoe and William Hunter.
Bindings
Eighteenth-century binding of full brown calf over pasteboard. The spine has five raised bands with blind-tooled double fillets to either side of each. Gold-tooled on a pared brown leather lettering piece in the second panel are the words: Diogenes Laertius. Venet. 1475. The pastedowns are of marbled paper featuring a combination of the spot, curl and comb patterns in red, yellow, green and blue. Watermarks with a scales enclosed in a circle and a horned bull's head surmounted with a staff and star. The upper and lower boards are loose at the joints with the spine. Size: 290 x 203mm. Leaf size: 282 x 190mm.

Circular armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Sullivan on the verso of the front free endpaper.
Coloured armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Allen Brotherton on the front pastedown. The book was most likely acquired before 17 June 1929 when Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
