Description

A series of thirty self-portraits created by Jean Cocteau during a melancholic period in a hotel in Ville-sur-Mer, many created under the influence of opium, including handwritten text in the margins, collected by Cocteau under the title "Le mystère de Jean l'Oiseleur". Reproduced in phototype, with some of the portraits handcoloured in pastel by the artist.
