Press Cuttings Collection

Biography or history

When the Equal Opportunities Commission located in Manchester closed its library, FAN was given journals, newsletters and the press cutting collection. The Equal Opportunities Commission was set up in 1975 after the passage of the Sex Discrimination Act as an independent non-governmental body. In 2007 it became part of Equality and Human Rightsd Commission.

System of arrangement

Files consist predominantly of collections of press cuttings: material collected prior to 1990 is sorted by topics, including family, education, and employment. Later press cuttings (1991-1996) are sorted chronologically. The material was donated to FAN in 1997, following the closure of the EOC’s reference library, along with several journals (see periodicals lists).
