Description

This collection constitutes all existing organisational and associated records for KCRP, including: administrative and financial papers, minutes, agendas, associated correspondence, course materials and curricula, and publicity material.

Biography or history

KCRP was founded in 1997 in association with the West Yorkshire Police Authority and ran until 1999. The programme was originally inspired by Norma Holding's John School San Francisco, following a speech given by her at the WOVA conference. The major aim of KCRP was to shift the emphasis from women in prostitution to men who paid for sex. It recognised street prostitution as an exploitation of women and children and a focus on kerb crawlers as a means of creating safer communities. KCRP was a self-funded programme which charged men reported for kerb crawling a fee of £110 in order to attend the Kerb Crawlers Re-education Programme, which was designed to re-educate men to the realities of prostitution, including detailed information on the health and social consequences of prostitution for themselves and others.
