Description
Brotherton Collection items: Autograph manuscripts of two folktales, one beginning "Sigurd son of Volsun", the other entitled "The pisgey and midwife"; autograph manuscripts of four poems, "Grasach Abo, or, the cause of grace", "Song of truth", "Tord of Hafsborough", and "The song of Deborah"; three bound vols, printed London, 1913, for private circulation by T.J. Wise, containing: (1) "King Hacon's death, and, Bran and the black dog, two ballads"; (2) "Grimhild's vengeance, three ballads", ed. by Edmund Gosse; and (3) "Mollie Charane and other ballads", in each case with Borrow's autograph manuscripts inserted.
Certain items are accompanied by information relating to their purchase by Dorothy McGrigor Phillips (Dorothy Una Ratcliffe); others bear her 'DUR' bookplate.

Provenance
At some point items from the Romany Collection (originally items referenced 1063-1071) were incorporated into this collection.
