Description

This sub-collection is a separate accrual. It includes:

1. A 'Pedigree of Perronet and Thompson' compiled by Henry Wagner, FSA, 44cm x 36cm, 7pp. There is also a letter from Aunt Lucy written on 14th Sep.

2) Letters written from India by Sir John Perronet Thompson to his sister Isabel Hughes in England, (1898 -1932). The handwriting changes as Sir John injured his hand between 1898 and 1915 and had to learn to write with his left hand. The letters show that he was pro-independence before it happened.

3) Pamphlet 'The problem in India' by Sir John Perronet Thompson, 1932. Address by Sir John P. Thompson ... to the House of Commons, on December 12th, 1932'. Press cutting about Sir John's speech at the Roshanara Club's dinner.

4) A letter from L. G. Johnson, Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Leeds to Lucius Thompson-McCausland with a notice of a book he was publishing on General T. Perronet Thompson (1783-1869).

5) Press cutting about the death of Rose Offley Ada Thomspson widow of General C. W. Thompson CB DSO, from the 'Dorset Daily Echo' 30 January 1943.

6) Photograph of Vincent Perronet Thomspon (one of Sir John Perronet Thompson's brothers), who was Mayor of Exeter in 1944-1945. There is also a letter from him to Lucius Thompson-McCausland and one from a removal company about the distribution of various family portraits, June 1949.
