Features
Marginal annotations and underlinings in ink manuscript throughout, now partially cropped and much faded.
There are inscriptions and pen ornamentations in black and red ink manuscript in several hands surrounding the printer's mark on k8v, now much faded.
Two major initials supplied in black and red ink manuscript on a2r.
Leaf a1 has been mounted.
Several other leaves have been repaired.
Bindings
Eighteenth-century binding of full mottled calf over pasteboard. The spine has five raised bands with gold-tooled fillets to either side of each. In the second panel is a pared red leather lettering piece gold-tooled with a border of double fillets and the words: Epist de Ovid. The pastedowns are of marbled paper featuring the spot pattern in pink, green, black, brown and cream. The leaf edges are coloured red. Size: 289 x 210mm. Leaf size: 279 x 200mm.
Provenance
Coloured armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Allen Brotherton on the front pastedown. The book was most likely acquired before 17 June 1929 when Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
