Description

Comprises the autograph manuscript working notebook used for drafts of miscellaneous poems composed by Paul Muldoon and subsequently published in 'Mules' in 1977. It was apparently compiled in Corfu and there are a few jottings on the outside back cover in Modern Greek.

The notebook is in the form of a ring-binder with pale blue covers, and the ink used for the text is mainly blue, with some purple and red. Most of the text has been crossed through by the author. 'Muldoon' is written twice, once in blue ink, and once in red ink, on the outside front cover.

Biography or history

Paul Muldoon, the poet, was born in Portadown, County Armagh, Northern Ireland in 1951. He graduated from Queen's University Belfast, where Seamus Heaney was his tutor, and worked as a radio and television producer for BBC Belfast before moving to the United States in 1986, where he became director of the Creative Writing Program at Princeton University in 1990. He has published many collections of poetry, and was the winner of the Irish Times 1997 Irish Literature Prize for Poetry. For fuller details of his life and achievements see 'Who's who'.
