Description

Comprises (a) notebook containing typed versions of poems for Matthewman's collection 'Interlude', with insertions; (b) five small books of verse by Matthewman, two published by the Swan Press (both presentation copies), and one printed by Alberta Vickridge (presentation copy by the printer); (c) seven small books of verse by others (including Cecil Lay and Alberta Vickridge), six of these published or printed by the Swan Press; (d) three Christmas cards printed for Sydney and Phyllis Matthewman, and one printed announcement of the birth of John Richard Brinton (13 July 1929) with a poem by Sydney Matthewman.

Biography or history

Sydney Matthewman (1902-?), poet and printer, established the Swan Press in Leeds in the 1920s. He later moved it to London. The Swan Press published poets from Yorkshire and the north of England.
