Bindings
Late nineteenth- or early twentieth-century binding of full sheepskin. The smooth spine is decorated with eight bands of blind-tooled triple fillets with stylised foliage to either side, forming seven panels. In the second panel is a pared brown leather lettering piece gold-tooled with double fillets at the top and bottom and between them the words: Totius canonici juris breuiarium - Paula Florentinus. Gold tooled at the base of the spine is the date: 1486. There are leather tabs along the fore-edge marking sections of the text. Size: 286 x 210mm. Leaf size: 279 x 195mm.
Provenance
Coloured armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Allen Brotherton on the front pastedown. The book was most likely acquired before 17 June 1929 when Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
