Search the Letters Database Index

The Letters Database was created as a free-standing index of letters held in Special Collections. The index has been transferred to our new Collections Management system but is not fully integrated with our main catalogue. In the search results, where possible we have included a link that will search the full catalogue for records matching the Location information. This is imprecise, but generally provides a good starting point.

Most searches will be for the Sender or Recipient of a letter, or (combining these) for a Correspondent. Searching for words or phrases in the Notes field can be helpful for finding letters on particular subjects (including people as subjects), but many records do not have data in this field. The Location field can be used to search for collection names as well as Library shelfmarks. Category enables searches for letters by pre-20th century women writers.
