October’s Tuesday Treasure is all about textiles. We’re joined by ULITA – an Archive of International Textiles, to showcase archives related to the textile heritage of the University, city and region.
To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Professor Aldred Barker, this Tuesday Treasure event celebrates the rich heritage of textile research and manufacture in the region. Professor Barker studied at the Yorkshire College with a Clothworkers’ Company Scholarship and was later made the Chair of Textile Industries, University of Leeds.
Discover items from the archives of local businesses. Find out about the spinning, weaving and dying trades and how Leeds became a major part of the UK textile industry.
Join us as we weave a path beyond the business archives to explore other textile and costume-related collections, including First World War uniforms and souvenirs.
