Create your own artist book in this workshop led by artist Molly Newham.
Get creative in this artist-led workshop inspired by landscapes, map-making and place. Experiment with mixed-media tools and mark-making techniques. Explore colour, collage and abstract composition.
Artist Molly Newham explores both physical and emotional relationships to landscape in her work. She uses movement, colour and shape to capture how it feels to be in a place. In this workshop you will gain an insight into Molly's artistic process. Discover how to work with colour, texture, layering and different media.
Molly will then support you through the process of creating your own artist book. Starting from a blank concertina sketchbook, you'll experiment with these techniques. Using collage and mark-marking in a variety of media, you'll explore how to represent a place that's important to you.
By the end of the workshop, you will have your own concertina artist book to take home!
All materials provided, suitable for all experience levels.
About Molly Newham
Molly Newham is a landscape artist and ultra-runner whose practice spans abstract painting, drawing and sculpture. Her work explores physical and emotional relationships to landscape, using movement, gesture, colour and mark-making to capture embodied experiences of place.
Through a practice of long-distance running, Newham develops a physical understanding of landscape, translating sensations of terrain, weather, distance and endurance into abstract forms. Her work considers how a place can be felt, remembered and experienced using unstable and weathered materials alongside gestural painting to explore ideas of erosion, temporality and change.
Newham completed a BA Fine Art Degree at the University of Leeds (2023), she has now completed an MA Fine Degree at the University of Leeds (2026). She was awarded the Alan Mohun Memorial Prize (2023), selected for Yorkshire Sculpture International Network Programme (2025/2026). Recent exhibitions include Apocalypse Remix, Redcar Palace (2026), Hammer, Anvil Stirrup, Henry Moore Institute Sculpture Library, (2025).
