Get Creative: Gestural Paper Art

Get creative with artist Vincent James at a playful online workshop exploring mark-making, collage and paper sculptures.

Taking inspiration from gestural abstract artworks in the University of Leeds Art Collection, this workshop will help you get arty through experimentation.

Learn simple art techniques to create your mark-making, collage and sculptural works.

Using basic materials that you can find at home, this workshop will begin with mark-marking. You will experiment with expressive marks, pattern, texture and frottage techniques. By cutting, tearing and layering these elements you will create a series of abstract compositions. Together we will transform these shapes into three-dimensional forms and bring them together to make different sculptural assemblages.

You will need:

Paper, coloured paper (could be recycled things as well; newspaper, envelopes, magazines etc).

Pencils, coloured pencils, pens, felt tips, crayons.

Blue tack, glue stick, sticky tape, masking tape, paper clips.

This event will be hosted online on Zoom. The joining link will be emailed to registered attendees one day before the start time.
