Dialect Identity and Inheritance: A Dialect and Heritage Project Workshop
- Date: Monday 14 June 2021, 13:30 – 15:00
- Location: Online Event
- Cost: Free. Book online here
Which dialect words and phrases do you use? Contribute to the Dialect and Heritage Project in this interactive workshop, and you might even learn some new dialect words along the way!
The Dialect and Heritage project is connecting past and present dialect study by opening up the extensive Leeds Archive of Vernacular Culture to the public.
In this interactive workshop we want to hear from you about your language. Which dialect words and phrases do you use, and how have family and friends influenced your way of speaking?
Your input will help us with our next steps, where the Dialect and Heritage project team will be working with five partner museums to expand the collection by involving people from across the country in sharing their dialect. The aim is to capture a snapshot of present-day dialect, in all its exciting diversity.
The Leeds Archive of Vernacular Culture, which includes the ground-breaking work of the Survey of English Dialects, is held in Leeds University Library’s Special Collections.
This event will be hosted online on Zoom. The joining link will be emailed to registered attendees one day before the start time.
