Student Projects

Student Ambassador

Meet our 2023-24 Student Ambassador Saba! Saba is working with our Learning and Engagement Team to help put on events and opportunities for students, including coming up with ideas for Fresh Start Festival and planning creative workshops.

You can get a feel for the kind of things our Student Ambassadors get up to over on the blog. Our 2022-23 Student Ambassador Cara has written all about her experience of working with us - give it a read here.

Cara, a white woman with red hair wearing a pink tshirt, stood behind a stall covered in Galleries merch and a purple tablecloth with white writing which reads "Your Galleries on Campus"

Event Volunteers

Our 2022-23 Event Volunteers planned and hosted a weaving workshop for a group of refugee and asylum seekers, supported by LASSN (Leeds Asylum Seekers’ Support Network), as part of the Welcoming Migrants project. The weavings were stitched together to create one large, vibrant work, included as part of a display about the project in The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery.

A group of people sat around a large table covered in a brown table cloth, creating weavings from brightly coloured threads

A text panel with the title "Weaving Together" beside a colourful hanging weaving and a painting of an abstract landscape in oranges and browns, all on a white gallery wall.

Digital Content Creator Volunteers

Our volunteers produce fantastic digital content for our social media and online platforms, providing even more ways for you to engage with our exhibitions and collections:

Take a journey around campus and chat to students all about maps with 2022-23 volunteer Matthew over on our TikTok – inspired by our 2023 exhibition ‘Shifting Borders: A Journey to the Centre of Our Worlds’.

If long-form video is more your vibe, check out our YouTube channel where you can explore a not-so Shakespearean tale with 2021-22 volunteer Callum and hear artist interviews conducted by 2021-22 volunteer Emilia alongside our 2022 exhibition ‘Seeing Stars’. Or get inspired by the famous Brontë siblings with 2022-23 volunteer Mia as she asks whether childhood interests followed you into adulthood, and invites you to share your stories using #LittleBookLittleMe

You’ll also find more great student content on our blog. Have a read of an immensely personal response to our 2022 exhibition ‘Poem, Story & Scape in the work of Kevin Crossley-Holland’ by 2021-22 volunteer Isabel. Or if you’ve ever thought about joining us for Sketch Club but aren’t sure what to expect, our 2022-23 volunteer Isabelle gives you the lowdown here. Spoilers: “Sketch Club is the best spot for a Friday afternoon creative breather” – Isabelle’s words, not ours!

And who wouldn’t want to know what your favourite library says about you? Our 2022-23 volunteer Heidi has created a BuzzFeed-esque, part art guide part personality quiz to spill the tea on your library preferences – with some art recommendations to boot! Take the quiz.
