The pastedowns are of marbled paper featuring the curl pattern in red, orange, green, blue and cream and the leaf edges are marbled in red, blue and cream. The book has a red silk ribbon register. The upper and lower boards are becoming detached from the spine at the joints. Provenance

At the bottom of the recto of leaf [2] is a faint autograph in ink manuscript: Stephanus Baluzius tutelensis. The book was previously owned by the scholar and historian Etienne Baluze (1630-1718), librarian to Jean-Baptiste Colbert.

Written in black ink manuscript on the recto of the first front flyleaf is an autograph and date: M. Wodhull. Nov. 20th 1783. The book was once in the possession of the poet and book collector Michael Wodhull (1740-1816) who purchased it from the bookseller Payne in 1783.

Coloured armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Allen Brotherton on the front pastedown. The book was most likely acquired before 17 June 1929 when Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
