Description

The border is decorated with Pan (from Greek mythology), the god of Nature, with his horns and legs of a goat and body of a man, wearing a wreath and making music with pan pipes, several putti, some with wings, one putto riding a mythical animal that is a hybrid of a bird, a rat and a lion (or similar), a hunter pursuing a goat, a female figure (a goddess?) running and throwing her arms in the air, a male figure lying on the ground having been speared with a spear or a sword, several birds, a beetle, a snail, a butterfly, tulips, pimpernels, strawberries, periwinkles, borage, grapes, speedwells, and an iris. 11-line foliate initial 'A' encloses a country landscape with a small town at the side of a forest, and mountains visible in the distance.
