Biography
Joined the Women’s Liberation Movement in 1975.
Active in many campaigns and initiatives mainly to do with violence against women and women’s training.
Was part of Revolutionary Feminism.
Diploma and MA in York: Flashing its effect on Women (1979-1982)
Moved to Leeds. Set up East Leeds Women’s Workshops: training for women failed by the education system, in carpentry / joinery and computing/ electronics. In the process of achieving European Social Fund support changed the ESF rules so training can include funds for childcare. (1981)
At Sexual Violence Against Women conference 1980, with others set up Women Against Violence Against Women campaign.
Coedited WAVAW book with dusty rhodes 1985
Founder member Justice for Women (1990) campaign to change laws and attitudes to women who take action against their abusers.
Trustee Feminist Archive North (1990 onwards)
Campaign to End Rape (1996)
Worked for Leeds City Council Women’s Equality Unit. 1990 -1997
Set up Nightlink: women’s safety bus. 1992
Co-ordinated Zero Tolerance Campaigns in Leeds and Hull (Leeds 1996/7 Hull 1998)
Member Advisory Group, Home Office Committee on revising Sex Offences Laws. (1999-2000)
Worked for Hull Women’s Centre (1998-2001)
Domestic Violence Co-ordinator Rotherham (2001-2008)
Re-established Leeds Rape Crisis Centre (SARSVL) with Katie Russell (2009)
Awarded Emma Humphries Memorial Prize (date) (2009)
