Notes in pencil manuscript on the front pastedown giving details of the edition.
On the first leaf of text is a large decorative initial drawn in black ink with marginal ornamentation featuring stylised foliage. Below is a smaller initial coloured in red and blue.
Major initials supplied in red throughout.
Capital strokes, paragraph markers and underlinings supplied in red.
Some worm damage.
Bindings
Binding of vellum over pasteboard, nineteenth- or twentieth-century, with facsimiles of an early printed missal mounted on the upper and lower covers. The facsimiles are printed in red and black with decorated woodcut initials and illustrations. Written in black ink manuscript directly onto the smooth spine are the words: Duns Scotus Nürnberg 1481. The leaf edges are sprinkled blue. Size: 356 x 253mm. Leaf size: 346 x 249mm.
Provenance
Coloured armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Allen Brotherton on the front pastedown. The book was most likely acquired before 17 June 1929 when Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
