Divided into 53 sections containing extracts from a large number of different works, including Thomas Stapleton's 'Promptuarium', Petrarch's 'De remediis utriusque fortunÁ', and the 'Vita Jesu Christi' by Ludolphus de Saxonia.


8vo, with original limp vellum covers.

Biography or history

Nicholas Hill (1570-ca.1610), the philosopher. For fuller details of his life and achievements see the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.

Provenance

On the last leaf is inscribed "This book was written by my cosin Mr Nicholas Hill". In the 19th century the manuscript belonged to Mr F. Madan, of Brasenose College, Oxford, afterwards Bodleian Librarian. Bookplate of John Rose, dated 12 March 1903.
